Just five minutes from BIG4 Wallaga Lake Holiday Park, Camel Rock and Horse Head Rock are two of the most iconic coastal rock formations on the Sapphire Coast. With ancient origins and dramatic shapes carved by wind and sea, these natural wonders offer more than just photo ops. They’re a glimpse into the deep geological history of this spectacular stretch of coastline.

Discover Camel Rock NSW

Camel Rock is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Bermagui and Wallaga Lake, named for its uncanny resemblance to a resting camel. It’s one of the oldest known rock formations in New South Wales, and is easy to access by car, with parking right near Camel Rock Beach

It’s a great spot for beachcombing, ocean views and swimming in warmer months. The rock itself sits just off the shore, perfect for photographs in early morning or late afternoon light.

Take the Horse Head Rock walk

From Camel Rock Beach, a scenic clifftop trail leads to Horse Head Rock, one of the most impressive natural arches in Australia. The Camel Rock to Murunna Point Walk offers sweeping ocean views, seasonal wildflowers and plenty of peaceful lookout points along the way. The rock is best viewed at low tide or from the elevated lookout for a full view of its distinctive shape.

The walk is moderately easy, suitable for most visitors with a decent level of fitness, and is one of the top free things to do near Wallaga Lake for nature lovers and photographers.

Why it’s worth the visit

It’s not just about the rocks. It’s about standing on the headland, salt in the air, and taking in the kind of view that makes you stop and breathe. These sites are ancient, raw and real and they’re often quiet even in peak season.

For travellers who love uncovering hidden gems and walking tracks with ocean views, this spot delivers without the crowds.

How to get to Camel Rock and Horse Head Rock

From BIG4 Wallaga Lake Holiday Park, head north on Wallaga Lake Road and follow signs to Camel Rock Beach. The drive takes about five minutes. There’s parking near the beach and signage to help you start the walk.

If you’re coming from Bermagui, it’s just a ten-minute drive north, making it an easy addition to your coastal itinerary.

Go explore the coast carved by time.
